Maj. Ron Young

Hello from sunny Florida!

My name is Ron Young.

I'm one of the charter members of this great club.

My dreams of owning a Corvette
again came true. I had been waiting
since 1965 when I went into the
service and sold my  '62.  I was able
to purchase a 1993 polo green 6-speed
coupe right on Long Island in May of 2001.

I looked and looked, read a lot, talked to
so many people.  What do I want, what
color, how old, how much can I afford.

We lived in a condo!  What about winter
storage.  Damn.
   Well, this one reached
out and grabbed me.  I looked it over,
drove it, done deal!  What an awesome
ride.  Wash, wax, and drive.

Hanging out at the Bellmore train station
on Friday nights, I got to meet a lot of
great people and check out a lot of
great cars.  The rest is history.

Well, it gets better.  In October of 2002
I retired from the N.Y.S. court system
at 55.  Time to go and enjoy life.
Time to leave the cold and traffic.
So off we went to Florida.

Those of you who know me well,
know I love to do crazy things
and laugh - now this is a visual
- I roll into the Varazanno toll
plaza, my wife is right ahead of
me in her '96 T-bird, I handed the
toll collector (I think it was $7) in
dimes and nickels and a few
quarters.  Well, after the nasty look
I say, "I just retired from the job
and I'm outta here!"  He says,
"Nice Vette," and I say thanks and
watch this.  I slip into first gear and
lay down a patch and see him
waving at me in the rear view
mirror.  It was great!!

Now I'm in Florida at last driving my '93,
going to shows and enjoying the car.

Then my wife says, "I want one too!"
Ok, I say, look around, if you can find one,
you can have it - bad move!  She finds a
mint '88 white coupe.
Now we are a two-Vette family.

Two years later I'm thinking "C-5".  We
go over to Rogers Corvettes in Orlando
just to look.  Sharon opens the door and
stands there saying "Oh my God" I say
"what?" 10,000 square feet of bumper to
bumper Corvettes!!!!!  So we left with a
LeMans Blue Commemorative Edition
2004 ragtop with 1069 miles on the car WOW...

The top is pretty much down all year round
and loving it!

My youthful days were wild with a few '55 Chevies,
a '69 Camaro SS, a '72 Mach I Mustang, pickup
truck, Corvair Monza and all those family cars.
But my dream car was always the '62 Vette.

My dream came back a little later in life,
but it's awesome!  With kids grown and on their
own, two new grandchildren growing fast, and
me turning 60 this year what could be better!!!

No wait, a Harley...Sharon says it's me or the
Harley - and I'm keeping her!!  But we need
another dream - think Bowling Green 2009...
miss you guys and gals.

Save the wave...
